Changing Cultures of Planning documents five urban projects that steered European urban planning in new directions: AIR: Kop Van Zuid in Rotterdam, Île de Nantes, Atelier Zuidvleugel in the Netherlands, Zurich-West and 50,000 Homes in Bordeaux. In each of these exemplary cases; the planning process was redesigned to produce an appropriate response to the specific problems, dynamics, and potentials of different cities and urban societies. The processes of interaction and collaboration between politicians, designers, private investors, administrations, and civic and cultural organizations are the focus of this publication. Reproductions of original project drawings and documents; descriptions of the specific planning procedures, timelines and maps; and in-depth interviews with key actors capture each of these moments of innovation.
